Dr. Andrew Jacono’s Deep Plane Facelift Technique Explained

Traditional facelifts often pull skintight over the face, a method that can leave patients looking stretched rather than rested. Dr. Andrew Jacono took a different route. In the early 2000s he developed the Minimal Access Deep-Plane Extended facelift, an approach that repositions skin, muscle, and fat as one connected layer instead of tightening skin alone. Patients who undergo the procedure tend to see results that hold for twelve to fifteen years, according to the surgeon’s own published outcomes.

Why the Technique Stands Apart

Town & Country magazine captured what separates this method from older facelift approaches, noting that patients treated by Dr. Andrew Jacono “look like refreshed versions of themselves” rather than visibly altered. That distinction has drawn attention well beyond typical cosmetic surgery circles. Fashion designer Marc Jacobs confirmed publicly in 2021 that Jacono performed his facelift, and fellow plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Nassif chose the same deep-plane approach for his own procedure, a rare endorsement from one specialist to another.

Training Behind the Technique

The surgical precision did not emerge overnight. Dr. Jacono earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1996, completed an otolaryngology residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary as administrative chief resident, and finished a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery accredited by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Andrew Jacono now holds the title of Associate Clinical Professor at Albert Einstein and serves as Section Head of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at North Shore University Hospital.

His published research, spanning more than 70 peer-reviewed articles in outlets such as Aesthetic Surgery Journal and JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, has helped cement the deep-plane approach within mainstream facial plastic surgery. A 2021 textbook on extended deep-plane facelifting further documented the method for other surgeons to study. What began as a technical refinement has become one of the more closely watched innovations in the field, built on a career that pairs surgical skill with a decades-long teaching role.
